Certification Program Statistical Data

The CGFNS International Certification Program (CP), designed specifically for first level, general nurses (RNs) educated outside the United States, consists of three parts: a credentials review, a test of nursing knowledge and a test of English language proficiency. Applicants must complete all three parts to qualify for a CGFNS Certification Program Certificate.

The test of nursing knowledge is the CGFNS International Qualifying ExamSM, a paper and pencil examination given three times a year at over 50 test sites worldwide.

Passing the CGFNS International Qualifying ExamSM satisfies one of the immigration requirements for registered nurses securing an occupational visa to work in the United States and is a prerequisite for licensure by a majority of the U.S. State Boards of Nursing. International nurses who passed the CGFNS International Qualifying ExamSM on the first attempt had a 92.4 percent chance of passing the U.S. licensure examination (NCLEX-RN®), according to the 2006–2007 CGFNS Annual Validity Study.
