2000 News New Members and Officers Elected to CGFNS Board of Trustees PHILADELPHIA, PA — JANUARY 6, 2000 — New members and officers were recently appointed and elected to the Board of Trustees of the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) in Philadelphia, PA, USA. CGFNS’s new Board of Trustees officers are: President Ellen Sanders, MS, RN, President, Innovative Health Care Services, Inc.; Vice-President Phyllis Kritek, PhD, RN, FAAN, Director of the Doctoral Program, School of Nursing, University of Texas Medical Branch; Secretary Aileen Kishi, PhD, RN, Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing, School of Nursing, University of Texas at Austin, who retains her position; and CGFNS’s new treasurer C. Alicia Georges, MA, RN, FAAN, Lecturer and Coordinator for the RN Program at Lehman College Department of Nursing. CGFNS also welcomes new Board Members Lucille Joel, EdD, RN, FAAN, Professor, Rutgers University College of Nursing; Stephen Holzemer, PhD, RN, Dean and Professor, School of Nursing at the Long Island College Hospital; and Dr. Alice Baumgart, RN, Interim Director at the Bronson School of Nursing at Western Michigan University, re-elected as Board Member-at-Large. All positions became effective January 1, 2000. CGFNS bids farewell to two Board Members, our recent President Sylvia Hart, PhD, RN, Professor and Dean Emeritus, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, College of Nursing; and Antonia Villarruel, PhD, RN, FAAN, Assistant Professor, University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Both have made enormous contributions in helping CGFNS to fulfill its mission. CGFNS is an immigration-neutral, nonprofit organization based in Philadelphia, PA, USA, and is an internationally recognized authority on education, registration and licensure of nurses worldwide. CGFNS’s mission is to provide responsible leadership in the delivery of relevant services to the global nursing and health care community. The organization was founded in 1977 through a collaborative effort by representatives from the U.S. Department of Labor; Department of Health, Education and Welfare (now the Department of Health and Human Services); the Immigration and Naturalization Service; and representation from nursing organizations, including the American Nurses Association and the National League for Nursing.
